Château de La Brède

The castle was built in the centre of a wooded park of about 150 hectares. Inspired by landscaped gardens and parks, and discoveries made on his travels, Montesquieu changed the areas surrounding his château. Above the first door allowing access to the château, one can read: "O rus quano te aspicia" - "O countryside when will I see you again", such was Montesquieu's desire to return to his beloved estate. The vines, having been removed in 2000, were replanted in this fine Graves soil.

Opening information

From 05/03 to 31/05: open from Wednesday to Sunday and public holidays from 14h to 18h (visits at 14h30, 15h30, 16h30, 17h30 - every 30 minutes on public holidays).
From 01/06 to 30/06: open from Wednesday to Sunday and public holidays from 14h to 18h30 (visits every hour during the week and visits every 30 minutes on weekends and public holidays).
From 01/07 to 31/08: open every day except Monday from 10am to 6:30pm. Visits every 30 minutes from 10:30am to 2pm and from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Nocturnes on 25/07, 07/08 and 21/08 (upon reservation). Departure between 8:30 pm and 9 pm.
From 01/09 to 30/09: open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 6:30pm (visits every hour during the week and every 30 minutes on weekends).
From 01/10 to 17/11: open from Wednesday to Sunday from 2 PM to 5:30 PM (visits at 2:30 PM, 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM).
